Firefighters made entry and determined the source of the smoke to be a lithium-ion battery -- knockdown achieved in 12 minutes. LAFD medics are assessing a dog that was in the unit for possible smoke inhalation, and LAFD hazardous materials experts are enroute to assist with disposal of battery. Nothing further. Two patients (29 year-old female and 10 year-old male) are being transported to the hospital, after being evaluated by paramedics. Both residential (upper) floors of the building were evacuated due to heavy smoke coming from the parking level. It took approximately 50 firefighters 39 minutes to extinguish the flames.
