Venice House Fire Claims a Life
On the morning of July 31, 2018, the Los Angeles Fire Department was notified at 4:39 AM of a structure fire in the 900 block of South 4th Avenue in Venice. Firefighters quickly arrived to find a one-story home with smoke showing from the rear of the structure.
Despite excessive storage conditions, firefighters immediately located a 73-year-old woman found unconscious inside the home. Paramedics provided advanced life support medical care and prompt transportation to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
During this time, 29 LAFD Firefighters continued the aggressive fire attack and coordinated vertical ventilation extinguishing the flames and smoldering contents in just 34 minutes.
The home was found to have no functioning smoke alarms yet the cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner. The cause of the fire is undetermined but the LAFD Arson/ Counter- Terrorism Section has ruled out arson.
