Public Safety Agencies Unite to Urge Independence Day Safety
With Independence Day quickly approaching, multiple agencies joined forces and held a news conference today to talk about the importance of fireworks safety.
Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas joined other leaders from Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD); Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD); Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD); Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); and the Grossman Burn Center to discuss the harmful effects of illegal fireworks and what the public can do to have a safe Fourth of July. They also answered questions regarding preparations for the Fourth of July holiday.
This was a great opportunity for the fire department and law enforcement to display their vehicles, the bomb squad showed powerful confiscated illegal fireworks, and a pyrotechnic expert demonstrated the potentially lethal power of illegal fireworks.
Law enforcement officials discussed their efforts and penalties surrounding the use of illegal fireworks. Officials also announced the 2015 “Junior Fire Chiefs” –elementary school students who produced beautiful posters to help send the message to “Visit a Professional Fireworks Show” in Los Angeles County.
Joint Anti-Fireworks Campaigns such as this have assisted in significant reductions in fireworks-related incidents and losses throughout the City.
Please help us continue this progress and avoid near tragedies as well as potentially painful injuries by not playing with fireworks. To honor Independence Day, please enjoy a public fireworks show.
Before, during and after Independence Day, please honor our city and country by having a #FireSafeFourth.
