Two men were injured and a woman killed, after an elderly motorist apparently lost control of her vehicle in the service drive of a north San Fernando Valley car dealership Wednesday morning.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was notified at 9:11 AM on August 9, 2023, of a multi-patient traffic collision with entrapment on the premises of Hamer Toyota, 11041 North Sepulveda Boulevard in Mission Hills.

Crews from nearby Fire Station 75 were on scene at the dealership's service department in less than two minutes to discover an off-duty nurse performing CPR on a pulseless and non-breathing 56 year-old female customer, who had been struck and dragged more than twenty feet beneath the errant sport utility vehicle, as it crashed through a glass enclosed reception area and came to rest against a distant cinder block wall well within the business.

Quickly securing the scene to assure no hazards remained, LAFD responders commenced advanced life support care on the lifeless woman, while their colleagues identified and cared for two injured dealership employees, a 23-year-old male with an arm laceration, and a 35-year-old male with head and foot injuries. The responsible motorist was uninjured.

The two injured employees were transported to an area hospital in fair to serious condition. The lifeless female customer who had been struck by and was briefly trapped by the vehicle, was transported in grave condition to a regional trauma center, where she later died of her injuries. The elderly female driver of the sport utility vehicle had no obvious or expressed injury, and declined offered ambulance transportation.

The Mayor's Crisis Response Team was summoned to the scene, to work alongside the dealership's peer support team, in offering compassionate crisis support to witnesses and coworkers.

Though early reports suggest this was a tragic accident, circumstances surrounding the collision remain the focus of an active investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division.

A positive identification of the decedent, as well as the specific cause, time and manner of her death, will be determined by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.
