Los Angeles Firefighters Battle Downtown Greater Alarm Fire
In the early morning hours on February 6, 2016, approximately 100 firefighters battled a dangerous downtown structure fire. At 1:00 AM, firefighters responded to 1138 Los Angeles Street to find a one-story pre-1933 commercial building, 50' x 100', with smoke showing. 
Firefighters forced entry through the front of the garmet store and began an aggressive attack on the entrenched flames.
Flames rapidly intensified inside causing a large second-story mezzanine to collapse in the rear of the structure. The mezzanine encompassed the back 1/3 of the business and contained an office and storage.
Approximately 100 firefighters, under the command of Battalion Chief David Thomas, extinguished the flames in one hour and five minutes. Firefighters remained on-scene working through the night.
The flames exposed a business to the left (Bravo side), however due to firefighters aggressive efforts the bulk of the flames were confined to the building of origin. No one was injured.
Building and Safety was requested to determine structural stability and examine the failed mezzanine. The building was yellow tagged due to extensive damage in the rear of the structure.
