LAFD Stops Brush Fire in Debs Park
Los Angeles Firefighters hit the hills and quickly gained control of a two acre brush fire in the steep terrain of Debs Park.
At 2:19 PM on July 5, 2015, the LAFD responded to a brush fire in Debs Park. Firefighters arrived on scene to find two acres slowly burning uphill.
Fortunately, it was a "topographical" fire, meaning it was not driven by the winds. This gave firefighters the upper hand in working to achieve containment and prevent damage to any structures.
Over 100 LAFD firefighters combined with four hand crews from LACoFD took 1.5hrs to get a full knockdown.
Air support hit the fire hard while ground crews established hand lines all the way around the perimeter and the LACoFD crews cut fire line. The efficient and effective teamwork successfully ensured no damage to any homes and no injuries were reported. Companies remained on the scene throughout the day and night to ensure no flare ups. The cause is not yet determined.
