LAFD Rescues Man from Roof of Burning Koreatown Home
An uninjured man was rescued from the roof of a house, as fire ripped through the second floor and attic. Aggressive actions by LAFD firefighters limit the damage to the two story, 104 year old home, which housed a first floor business below the residential living space.
At 8:14 PM on March 12, 2015, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to 734 South Ardmore Avenue, where they found heavy fire erupting from the second floor. Firefighters immediately encountered a man on the roof who was assisted uninjured down a fire department ladder.
As firefighters made an aggressive interior attack they quickly searched for reported trapped occupants. Additional teams of firefighters performed vertical ventilation, cutting holes in the roof to relieve smoke and super-heated gases from the 3,400 square foot house. A converted attic with large amounts of personal storage fueled this ferocious blaze causing firefighters to encounter intense heat and flames.
It took seventy seven Los Angeles firefighters, under the Command of Battalion Chief Jaime Moore, just 36 minutes to fully extinguish the fire. No victims were discovered during the search. Judicious use of water and extensive salvage by firefighters saved the, newly remodeled first floor business, “Top Learning Center”.
The home was equipped with working smoke alarms and there were no reports of injury. The monetary dollar loss from this greater alarm blaze was estimated at $400,000. The cause of the blaze remains under active investigation by LAFD Investigators .
