Historic Pacific Dining Car Burns for the Second Time

Thursday, March 20, 2025

WESTLAKE -At 6:53AM on March 20, 2025 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1310 W 6th St in the Westlake neighborhood.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from a two-story vacant office building, and upon further investigation discovered fire inside of the adjoining one-story restaurant. The restaurant was identified as the Pacific Dining Car, a building recently added to Los Angeles' list of Historic-Cultural Monuments, as well as the location of a previous burn last August. Additional companies were requested; approximately 100 firefighters were on scene at the height of the incident.

The bulk of the fire in the Pacific Dining Car building was in the attic and roof, which caused a partial roof collapse. Fire companies achieved full extinguishment in 45 minutes, then requested LAFD Heavy Equipment crews and the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Due to extensive damage from both this incident and the previous burn, both buildings are being assessed for structural integrity and associated safety concerns.

No occupants were found in either structure, and no injuries to either civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause of this fire is currently unknown and under investigation.
