Fire Damages Boyle Heights Metal Firm

Saturday, October 18, 2014
BOYLE HEIGHTS-

The Los Angeles Fire Department battled a greater alarm fire at a Boyle Heights business early Sunday morning.

Los Angeles Police Officers on patrol first noticed the blaze at 1459 South Lorena Street at 2:40 AM on October 19, 2014. They summoned firefighters, who arrived quickly to find fire through the roof of a one-story metal casting firm.

Forcing entry through security gates and rolling steel doors, firefighters extended hoselines to battle heavy flames within the 7,200 square-foot masonry building, before structural compromise of the roof forced their transition to a defensive posture using large hose streams.

Ninety-two firefighters under the command of Battalion Chief Jaime Lesinski prevented fire damage to a pair of adjoining businesses, confining the blaze to the building of fire origin. The flames were fully extinguished in just 61 minutes, and no injuries were reported.

Fire loss to the heavily damaged Barrios Castings Company is still being tabulated. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
