Fire Chases Family From South Los Angeles Home
Four South Los Angeles residents escaped with little more than their lives Wednesday night, when flames erupted in a home not equipped with functional smoke alarms.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned at 9:19 PM on December 23, 2015 to 515 West 59th Place in South Los Angeles. Firefighters arrived quickly to find a small one-story house at the rear of the property well involved with fire. Having noted the odor of smoke just prior to bedtime, a man, woman and her two young daughters were able to escape fast-moving flames in the three bedroom home moments before the Fire Department arrived.
"It was a fortunate discovery" said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey, who noted that the home had no functional smoke alarms, adding "this could have been a deadly blaze".
