Brush Fire in Cahuenga Pass Stopped at 18 Acres
Despite steep terrain and downed powerlines, over 200 LAFD firefighters stopped a brush fire from taking hold in the Hollywood Hills.
Just after 3pm on Tuesday, 19 July 2016, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire near Cahuenga Blvd at the Northbound 101 Freeway. With approximately four acres of grass burning towards moderate brush, first arriving units immediately attacked the hot flank of the fire. Additional firefighters were requested because of the steep terrain and difficulty reaching the fire, causing the incident to become a Major Emergency brush fire.
Over 200 firefighters, assisted by helicopters and hand crews from Los Angeles County Fire Department, under the command of Deputy Chief Charles Butler took two and a half hours to gain a knockdown. Despite the close proximity of both an apartment complex and single family dwellings, firefighters prevented the 18 acre fire from damaging any homes. Firefighters remained on scene throughout the night to ensure no flare-ups and protect the neighboring community from danger.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
