Brentwood Fatality Structure Fire
In the early morning of October 20, 2022 at 5:54 AM, your Los Angeles City Fire Department Firefighters arrived on scene to find a large, two-story craftsman style home, with lazy smoke showing. As firefighters made their way to the rear of the home a significant yellow glow quickly became apparent.
Additional firefighters were immediately dispatched to assist in the firefight as members on-scene were told there may possibly be an elderly person inside. With the heightened sense of urgency, firefighters commenced an aggressive interior attack while truck companies simultaneously cut holes on the roof to release the toxic smoke and gases. Firefighters inside the home rapidly made their way through heavy smoke conditions and quickly found the body of a 92-year-old female that was tragically determined dead in a rear bedroom on the first floor. Concurrently, additional firefighters performed a thorough and strategic search of the large home to ensure nobody else was inside.
A total of 26 firefighters, under the command of Battalion Chief Joseph Everett, fully extinguished the flames in just 33 minutes. Per protocol, LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) responded and is actively investigating the cause of the fire. . There were no functional smoke alarms found inside the home and no additional firefighter or civilian injuries.
