Valley Bureau Commander

Deputy Chief Jaime E. Moore is the Commander of Operations Valley Bureau. He was born in Delhi, Louisiana, and outside of that first week, he has spent his entire life in Southern California. Raised in the Venice / Mar Vista area of Los Angeles in a Mexican / American household, his mother immigrated from Guadalajara, Mexico; Chief Moore was raised speaking English and Spanish. He is very proud of his Hispanic heritage and the diverse perspectives it has provided him. Chief Moore graduated from Santa Monica High School, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Emergency Management from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and has earned the prestigious Executive Fire Officer Certification from the National Fire Academy.

Chief Moore is a progressive fire service leader who advocates education, and the importance of knowing your job, and promotes empathy towards others and kindness to all. Chief Moore joined the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) in May 1995 and has been assigned to all four Geographic Bureaus of the City. He was promoted to Captain in 2003, Captain II in 2008 and is recognized by many due to his time as a Public Information Officer for the LAFD and various Incident Management Teams across the State of California. Chief Moore continues to advocate the importance of having a resilient community, strives to keep our communities well-informed, and educates others to build a more resilient community.

Chief Moore was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2014 and was assigned to the Pico / Union district, one of the most densely populated areas of the City. Chief Moore served as the Commander of the Department’s FireStatLA Section, overseeing the performance management of the LAFD. As the Commander of the FireStat Section, Chief Moore worked to establish a foundation of performance management, and he continues to strive towards improving the Department’s effectiveness and efficiency as he advocates the importance of Performance Leadership, Measurement, and Management.

Chief Moore is a California State Certified Fire Prevention Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician, Strike Team Leader, and Public Information Officer, and he served on the Department’s Field Incident Management Teams in many capacities, most recently as the Incident Commander of Field Incident Management Team 3. In 2017 Chief Moore was elected to the Chief Officer’s Association Executive Board, where he volunteered his time and served as the Director of Professional and Social Development for one year and as President for four years. Chief Moore continues to volunteer and serves as an active Board Member of Harbor Connects / Neighbors Helping Neighbors. This non-profit organization supports neighbors and service providers in the fight against poverty.

In 2018, Chief Moore was promoted to Assistant Chief and was assigned to Operations South Bureau, and in June of 2023, Chief Moore was appointed Deputy Chief of Operations South Bureau. Operations South Bureau proudly serves and protects the Harbor Area, South Los Angeles, Mid-City, and Century City communities. This expansive jurisdictional responsibility lies in vibrant, densely populated residential communities, vital commercial districts, historically significant landmarks, and critical infrastructure.

Chief Moore is committed to the highest level of all-hazard emergency services on land, sea, and air, empowering the community through resilience initiatives and minimizing the impact of emergencies through sound prevention, planning, and collaboration.

Chief Moore considers it an honor to serve the people of Los Angeles and is proud to lead the 26 fire stations, over 800 sworn personnel, and civilian staff that make up Operations Valley Bureau.
